ECOTOURISM, NATURAL PHENOMENA, SPLENDID VIEWS
Adventure tours and ecotourism, closely linked, are fast developing kinds of journeys. Mountains and Bulgarian nature as a whole offer excellent conditions for the nearly whole famous in the world range of adventure types of tourism, preferred in recent years. Various lays, favorable climate, absence of dangerous animals, offer the admirers of adventure opportunities all the year round.
In summer there are successful and various in difficulty combinations of afoot tours (up to 15 days) in Rila, Pirin Mountain, the Balkan Mountains etc. There are programmes including spending à night in tents, where the luggage is carried by mules. In Balkan Mountains, Strandzha Mountain and Rhodope Mountains passings by riding a horse or bicycle are organized in summer. The most suitable for passings by snowshoes and cross-country skis are Rila, Rhodope Mountains, and Vitosha Mountain.
It is advisable to use an experienced cicerone because a mountain can be dangerous for an untrained contemporary person, cut off from the nature. Non-track snowboards, ski mountaineering, visit of caves, rock climbing, delta-plane gliding, paraplane gliding and cocktails of sports are also offered.
Rafting, canoe and kayak riding are organized along the rivers of Struma, Arda, Mesta, Vit, Yantra and some sections of Danube. Sea holidaymakers can vary their days by sea kayak, snorkel or scuba diving, water skiing, surfing, sailing.
People who love nature and especially those, with special interests, who do not want to take risks, can find many other occupations: to watch ornithological fauna (Madzharovo, Atanasov Lake, Srebarna etc.), rare plants (orchids, haberlea rhodopensis etc.), can make photo-safari in hunting reserves and farms (Voden, Kormisosh, Dikchan) with watching of brown bear, red dear etc. or geological tours in the regions of Belogradchik Rocks, Ritlite, Upright Stones, Vratsata, Melnik, Stob.
In recent years in the sphere of ecotîurism, a national programme “Bulgarian ecopaths” is developed to reveal inaccessible beauties and to cover the territory with so called ecopaths – the best illustration of ecotourism.
Everywhere can be found unique natural spots with a large variety of forms: rock phenomena (rocky bridges, karst precipices, rocky pyramids etc.), caves (over 2000), waterfalls etc.
The reserve – lake of Srebarna (a dwelling-place of protected migrator bird species) are in the List of UNESCO for world natural and cultural heritage.
About 75% of the birds, dwelling European continent, can be watched in Bulgaria.
