HOSPITALITY, HEARTH AND HOME LIFESTYLE, PASTORAL PICTURES, HOLIDAYS
In Bulgarian villages tourists are received like friends or travelers – explorers – to identify themselves and live with natives, to take part in agricultural activities, in afoot tours, passings with horses and carts, in handicraft and culinary courses etc.
Those who wish to spend their holiday far from the tense city life, can stay in a cottage, to make into yoghurt on their own, to carry home cotton cloth or pottery, made by their own hands or to forget the city stress by joining in Bulgarian folk dance or rutchenisa (a brisk Bulgarian folk dance). More than 50 villages and over 50 monasteries offer accommodation facilities for this kind of tourists.
The beauty is in the heart and soul of Bulgarians. In architecture, in the everyday objects and home arrangement, in dances, in creative work – everywhere flows harmony of colours and sounds, warmth and cosiness.
From the traditions of Thracians, Slavs, Proto-Bulgarians this folklore and lifestyle diverse has been created, which still amazes specialists. Customs, rituals, national costumes, songs take turns from region to region – specific and various, kept Bulgarians’ spirit throughout the centuries. Elements of pagan rituals are still present at folk-customs (mummels, fire-dancing). Unique is the custom to make “martenitsa” for health – twined white and red threads with tassels at the end.
Light-fingered Bulgarian hands use skillfully textile, clay, wood, stone and metal. Nature is present in the beaming colours of folk-materials and dishes. Interior in the houses is considered with the taste of their owners. It is created to be comfortable and it inspires peace in mind and cosiness.
Bulgarian farmyard with its whole diversity: with the vegetables and fruit-trees, with the domestic animals, is an original oasis, preserved ecological foodstuffs. There you can try both the juicy cherries in May and the sweet medlars in September.
